Round Two!

It’s official.  I might be just a little bit crazy.  Back in October I found myself watching a total of six dogs at once.  It wasn’t until after the fact did I realize just HOW crazy I might have been.  But somehow -I have found myself in the same position once again, only this time -the dogs are all big dogs.

It seems a little less chaotic this time, however.  Perhaps because they all live in the same general area, or perhaps because mom is back in town and can lend a hand.  Either way -we are back to having six dogs.

Introducing:

Kilo:

Kilo is a purebred lab.  She is one of the best dogs I have ever watched, and am terrified I will break her!  She listens SO well!  Her puppy dog eyes are because she is trying to tell me she doesn’t like plain dog food and needs more treats.

Winston:

20170105_123054

Mr. Winston is an good old boy.  We used to watch him -many, many years ago.  Probably 10 years ago.  He is old, but still good.  He got himself stuck in the bushes this afternoon, took me about ten minutes to coax him out!

Bob:

This is Bob.  Bob has been here before.  He is surrounded by female dogs -and enjoying every minute of it.  Don’t let his sad look fool you!  Every time I see him, I see Scrat:

He is a good boy too.  He is easy going and gets along with every dog.

Harper:

Miss Harper has been featured here before.  She is still hanging with us.  These sad eyes are brought to you by the word “sit.”  She loves to run, jump, play and do anything BUT sit.  Don’t worry -she was back to smiles and kisses after the picture.

Belle:

Belle is a husky.  She has one brown, one blue eye.  She is a beauty.  A nut.  A wild girl who loves to play in the snow…I guess being a husky it runs in her blood.  She was more than happy to smile for the camera -perhaps because I was holding a treat?

and back by popular demand, Yoshi!:

The ringleader of it all.  Her look says it all.  I have been super happy -she has done VERY well with all these dogs in her house.  The only casualty has actually been to her -I let Yoshi into Harper’s area and Yoshi came in with a bit too much gusto.  Harper bit her ear.  But she is healing nicely.  She is going to be one lonely nut when all these pups leave!

These Guys…

DSC_0390

These two ran away this morning.  They were gone for about two hours.  It was raining.  They are known to sneak off for five or ten minutes -but they are usually next door making friends.  Today they were just gone.  Gone!  We walked and drove up and down the road yelling and calling -and nothing.

DSC_0378

This one came home with a bag of salmon.  A bag of salmon that was vacuum sealed and frozen at one point.  A bag of king salmon.

DSC_0289

This one came home about twenty minutes later.  With no salmon.  Just a funky smell.

DSC_0272

This one was really worried when they were gone.

DSC_0398

They had some buddy bonding time after I got over being mad at them for making me yell for them in the rain for two hours.  I don’t have a lot of sympathy for dogs who run away from their nice warm homes with plenty of food and lots of toys.  But since I am only puppy-sitting Siren, I kind of had to find her.

At least they are cute!

Just can’t stay mad at that face!

Or that one for that matter!

Day 20: Adelaide Zoo

When we went to the zoo yesterday, they were running a special that if you bought the tickets that day -you could get tickets to the Adelaide Zoo 1/2 price.  Being suckers for good deals -we jumped on it and bought tickets to go to the zoo.  The temperatures today were over 100 (in the shade!) but we went for it anyway and had a great time.  There was enough shade that we didn’t completely pass out!

This little guy was busy watching the airplane flying overhead…

He was so cute.

Day 19: Victor Harbor – Adelaide

We drove from Victor Harbor to our final destination today.  Just outside of Adelaide.

Since we had a few hours to kill before showing up (David’s aunt and uncle who we are staying with were out until late) we decided to check out a local zoo (Monarto Zoo).  It was an African Safari styled zoo, and since the weather was so hot (around 100!) they closed the walking trails and only allowed a bus to take us around.   The animals weren’t in cages, and instead were free ranged in a park like area built for them.  To see them the bus drove down roads through their fenced areas to give us a chance to see them.  Some walked right up to the bus while others stayed off in the shade.

It was really neat -seeing the animals that close.

And finally, the cheetah.  This one was hand raised and trained by the zoo.  They were able to hand feed her.
